Thousands of drivers...including 4,000 trucks...were stuck on the main highway M-10 between St. Petersburg and Moscow...some 190kms/125 miles...for up to 44 hours...as all traffic...except by foot...came to a standstill.
A heavy snowfall...and even fog...were blamed for the massive jam-up on the road...that winds thru dense forests.
With temps hovering at 5C/23F...a few warming tents with food were erected...but many complained of price gouging by local merchants.
Police claim by Monday morning...traffic was moving along again at an average speed of 80km/49 MPH.
