Chileans are girding for new protests...and probable violence...after the supreme court approved a highly unpopular $3.5 bn Patagonian dam project...that will flood 6,000 hectares/15,000 acres of land there.
Environmentalists...and 74% of the population in polls...object to the construction of 5 dams for energy...and 2,000km of transmission lines...that will take 10 years to complete...and could provide 20% of Chile's energy.
The controversial HidroAysen project has sparked several large...and violent...protests in the past.
