GUATEMALA / CANADA : Violent Silver Mine Protests Force Emergency Declarations In 4 Towns.
One cop was shot dead...and 6 protesters were wounded Monday...after clashes in 4 southeast towns near a proposed Canadian silver mine.
Locals fear the new Escobal mine will exhaust their natural springs and water resources.
The government declared a state of emergency...and sent in troops to aid local police in the San Rafael Las Flores region...70Km/40 miles from Cd de Guatemala.
