Yesterday's NYTimes published a short but interesting profile of Uruguay's unique President Jose 'Pepe' Mujica, 78.
Reporter Simon Romero apparently shared mate and some cane alcohol espinillar...at Mujica's rundown house outside Montevideo.
He briefly details some episodes of Mujica's life...including his more than 10 years in solitary confinement for Tupamaro rebel activities...his career as a Vespa driving legislator...and since 2009...serving as president...including Mujica's recent...and highly unpopular...plan to legalize and tax marijuana there.
