New PM Bidzina Ivanishvili pushed for a massive prisoner release...claiming that many were jailed unfairly.
In December...parliament approved the release of 3,000 inmates...and shorter terms for many more.
Releases began today...with just 190 inmates.
Opposition President Saakashvili...whose administration was plagued by charges of prisoner abuses...warns that the mass release...will have dangerous consequences.
The scandal actually brought about a change in the government.
Currently in the Czech Republic...there is a growing turmoil and anger over the release of up to 32,000 inmates by outgoing President Vaclav Klaus.
