This is a fascinating and little told tale of real courage...but true.
Russian submarine fleet commander...Vasili Alexandrovich Arkhipov...refused to allow one of his 4 subs...lurking off the coast of Cuba during the 1962 missile crisis...to launch a 10 kilo atomic torpedo that would have destroyed USA naval warships...released a mushroom cloud of radiation...brought nuclear retaliation strikes...and perhaps begun the end of the human life.
