Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Lisboa Monday night...angry over new 4% tax hike and new severe budget cutting measures.
At least one person was injured...and several were arrested.
Two thousand had gathered earlier outside the parliament after the hikes were announced...and demanded the resignation of right center PM Passo Coelhos.
The nation's largest labor union has already announced a 14 November general strike date.
Portugal is now in its third year of recession...and unemployment stands at 15.9%...and is projected to rise to 16.4% in 2013.
