In a belated effort to combat growing crime...and murders...a new law signed by President Hugo Chavez bans the commercial sale of guns and ammo to private individuals.
Only police, the army and security companies now will be able to buy firearms from the state-owned manufacturers and importer.
In 2011...more than 18,000 were murdered in Venezuela.
AND: The military reports bombing and destroying 36 clandestine air strips used by narcos...many near the Colombian border.
