The federal government will try Para state Senator Joao Ribeiro...for keeping 35 workers in 'subhuman' conditions on his Amazon ranch...in 2004.
Senators can only be tried before the nation's supreme court.
Ribeiro is alleged to have forced laborers to work 78 hours weekly...with no days off, no medical care...and other 'subhuman' conditions.
No date for the trial has been announced.
