Ex-Gen. Efrain Rios Montt, 85, will be tried for genocide and crimes against humanity.
He ran Guatemala in 1982-83...when entire villages of Mayans were wiped out...in an effort to defeat rebels.
Some 100 massacres killed 1,771 people...and displaced 29,000.
A judge has placed him under house arrest.
Rios Montt denies the charges.
For 12 years...he had immunity because he was a congressman.
