Some 400 military police...along with mounted officers and helicopters...launched an early morning raid and arrested 72 protesters at the University of Sao Paulo.
The students were protesting the police presence on campus.
Police first beefed-up their campus presence in September after a student was murdered during a robbery. Another was robbed and shot in October.
But tempers flared when 3 students were arrested for smoking pot...and police cars were damaged.
