The national power grid failed at 8:30 p.m. Saturday for 3 hours...plunging Santiago and 10 million people into darkness.
The blackout stopped the subway system, traffic lights and cut all cell phone service.
Copper production in some mines was also halted.
Hundreds of looters robbed a suburban supermarket.
The cause for the blackout is not yet known.
