The death of President Cristina Fernandez's husband and closest adviser may actually help her retain control by throwing her rivals off balance less than a year from the next election.
"After that display (at the funeral), no one can question the president's legitimacy and that she is not only our president, but our political leader," said Fernando Espinoza, mayor of La Matanza, which has a population of more than 1.3 million.
