     A homemade raft...loaded with 23 Cubans seeking freedom...sank off Cancun's coast... near Isla Mujeres.
     At least 2 are dead...and 12 missing.
     The Cancun area has become a popular choice for Cuban refugees...as the USA's Coast Guard patrols have made successful landings in USA waters difficult.
      This year...Mexican police busted a major Cuban migrant smuggling ring in Isla Mujeres.
      In 2007...an estimated 10,000 Cubans made their way into the USA via Mexico...with
 7,401 entering thru Mexico...so far in 2012.
