Police in Rondonia have confirmed that rural activist Adelino Ramos (left) has been killed.
He survived a violent land conflict 15 years ago when police killed 10 landless activists on land they had occupied.
The Ramos killing follows the recent murder of environmentalist Jose Claudio Ribeiro da Silva and his wife, Maria.
More than 1,150 rural activists have been slain in the past 20 years by gunmen hired by loggers, ranchers and farmers to continue illegal cutting of the forest.
