The 21,000 residents of Swiebodzin near the German border are backing the construction of a 33-meter statue of Christ due to be completed in November.
When finished, it will exceed Bolivia's record holding Cristo de la Concordia statue by some nine meters and even exceed Rio's world famous Christ statue in stature.
Even in this exceedingly Catholic country, the residents hope for commercial gain --to lure tourists off the beaten path to little Swiebodzin.
