UKRAINE : 03 April UPDATE: Thousands In Opposition Fail Getting Kyiv Leader Popov Ousted; Surviving The Record Snow.
Thousands demonstrated outside Kyiv's city hall...demanding an early June mayoral election...and the removal of a close ally of President Yanukovich from the office.
Olexander Popov is scheduled to remain in office until 2015.
The ex-KGB agent was appointed by Yanukovich...in mid-2012.
His poor performance during Kviv's recent record snow emergency has angered many citizens.
It was the opposition's biggest action so far this year.
But...they failed to win enough support for an early ballot.
