La Paz wants to expand sales of its unique 'superfood' quinoa...to Asia and the Middle East.
Quinoa has become very trendy...and expensive...in the USA and Europe.
The nutty tasting grain is cooked like rice...but is full of proteins and amino acids...but with few carbs.
It was called chisaya mama by the Incas and revered.
Quinoa needs to grow in semi-arid conditions...and high altitudes...so Bolivia produces most of the world's crop...and exports 70% of it.
2013 has been designated the International Year of Quinoa by the UN.
