This news blog has several regular visitors from northern Italy.
We are saddened by the loss of life and damage done to the historic area...from the second large quake to hit the Emilia-Romagna region...north of Bologna...since 20 May.
The region has also suffered from more than 50 aftershocks.
More than 16,000 people are still living rough...and at least 24 died from the 2 quakes...and 350 were injured.
The total damage is now estimated at 5 billion euros.
Hard hit by this second 5.8 quake was the town of Medolla.
Overall...some 20,000 workers have been laid off from 3,500 businesses.
