Sadly...Cesaria Evora...Cape Verde's most famous singer...has passed away...at age 70.
Evora was known as the "Barefoot Diva"... because she usually performed without shoes.
She began recording late in her life...and in 2003 won a Grammy for her album 'Voz D'Amor.'
She preferred singing traditional Portuguese and Criolo tunes...and many compared her style to blues legend Billie Holliday.
Here she sings 'Sodade'.
