POLAND: A Defeated Jaroslaw Kaczynski Returns To Old Form-- As Barking Junk Yard Dog.

    Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the recently defeated presidential candidate, admits his campaign was a dismal failure. So he has fired his staff and shifted blame for the defeat to his use of "powerful, calming drugs" after the tragic death of his brother in a plane crash.
   “I was in a terrible state of shock after my brother's death — nothing worse could have ever happened to me in my life. I had to take very powerful calming drugs — which had its effects,” Kaczynski told Polish Newsweek. “I was in such a state that, honestly, the election campaign was thought up for me.”
    He has also returned to his old behavior-- attacking like a vicious junk-yard dog.
   Kaczynski again is calling Poland nothing but "a German-Russian condominium."
    He also calls President Komorowski and Prime Minister Donald Tusk “evil people,” saying that he will never shake Komorowski's hand, and accusing the government of being responsible for the air crash that killed his twin brother.

POLAND: Home Of Euroland's Deadliest Highways.

G.POST/ JAN CIENSKI :     "Poland has the highest number of road deaths of all 27 European Union countries — 4,572 people were killed on the roads in 2009, a death rate of 120 for every million citizens. The EU average is 69 deaths per million.
“We are the red zone of Europe,” admitted Andrzej Wojciechowski, director of the Institute of Car Transport.
"Polish drivers tend to be much more aggressive than their counterparts in western Europe. Many Poles grew up on underpowered communist cars, if they drove at all prior to 1989. Now, the vast majority of cars on the road are modern models, often bought second-hand from neighboring Germany, and many drivers are unused to driving such powerful cars. An additional factor is Poles' traditional disregard for laws and regulations — a holdover from their centuries under foreign occupation, when resisting rules was a patriotic duty. Such habits die hard."

POLAND: Beach Scene Reflects Economy ;Too Many "Staycations."

GPOST/ JAN CIENSKI /      "The beach in Wladyslawowo, one of Poland’s premier seaside destinations, is so packed with baking Poles that it is difficult to take a step without standing on someone — but to regular beach-goers, the view is actually pretty dismal, in large part because of the economic crisis. “I can see empty spaces on the beach — on a normal year it would be even more packed,” said Aleksander Andrzejewski, who runs the Solmare guesthouse just steps from the beach. The economic crisis is keeping Poles closer to home, with travel agencies reporting a fall in interest in foreign holidays thanks in large measure to the recent gyrations of the zloty caused by the Greek meltdown."
