BRASIL: Middle Class Frets...As Costs Of Domestic Help Soar.
Sizzling economic growth and soaring salaries...helped along with a new mandate...has middle class families fretting that their historic use of domestic help...will soon be coming to an end.
As is the case in the USA...in Brasil...soon only the rich may be able to afford live-in maids, cooks and nannies.
Last week in Brasilia...Congress passed a constitutional amendment that gives domestic help 8-hour work day and overtime pay and vacations.
In 2012...domestic salaries jumped 13%...twice the inflation rate.
