BRASIL: Troops Invade 2 Rio Slums...Peacefully.
It only took 25 minutes for some 1,500 troops in armored carriers...supported by helicopters...to invade the Caju slum near Rio's airport...in yet another 'pacification' effort...ahead of 2 important tourist events...the 2014 World Cup...and 2016 Olympics.
Security forces encountered no resistance as they moved into the Caju...while 200 police peacefully invaded another favela...Barreira do Vasco.
At least 12 people were arrested...with weapons and drugs seized.
Since 2008...more than 30 slums have been 'pacified.'
There are more than 600 favelas in Rio.
