BRASIL: Tons Of Dead Fish Fill Famous Rio Lagoon.
Thousands of shad, catfish, tilapia and yellowtail died-off in Rio's famous Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon.
2 recent storms apparently washed large amounts of organic material into the lagoon...reducing oxygen levels...and killing fish spawning in one of Rio's centerpiece tourist attractions.
More than 65 tons of rotting fish have been collected so far.
In 2009...more than 100 tons of fish were killed following storms.
