For visitors outside the USA...and ship lovers who simply missed it...the USA's top news program '60 Minutes'...last night featured the daring project to raise and salvage the giant cruise ship Costa Concordia...that sunk after hitting a huge rock in January.
It is the biggest salvage effort in history...costing more than $400 million...to try to lift and float away the 60,000 ton vessel off the sensitive reefs of Giglio island.
Experts say the untried method is risky...with essentially...only one shot to refloat the ship.
This report features excellent animations of the untested procedures.
