A Putin appointed judge found 3 young women protesters of the impromptu punk/feminist group 'Pussy Riot' guilty of hooliganism...and sentenced them to 2 years in a penal colony.
Judge Marina Syrova declared that 'Nadya, Masha and Katya'...as they are known in Russia...were full of religious hatred and 'crudely undermined the social order'...in a long-winded nearly 3 hour reading of the verdict.
The EU, UK and USA call the punishment 'disproportionate.'
The womens' lawyers say they will appeal the verdict...but with little hope of success.
The 3 have already spent 5 months in jail...so could be freed in 19 months...or earlier if Putin pardoned them.
The Russian Orthodox Church has hinted it would not oppose an early release or pardon.
Dozens of protesters were arrested outside the Moscow courtroom...and protests of support were staged throughout the world.
