Police in Cochrane arrested the driver of a truck loaded with 5 tons of ice allegedly removed from the Jorge Montt Glacier...in southern Chile.
He was charged with theft...but may also face charges of crimes against cultural heritage.
They valued the ice at $6,200.
The large glacier is melting rapidly...and its water is coveted by some for its ancient purity.
Glacier ice is frequently used as cubes...for drinks in Santiago bars.
