A 6-months long oil workers strike over better pay in Zhanaozen...turned violent...leaving at least 15 dead...and 110 injured...as police tried to clear the streets.
Many buildings including government and oil company offices were attacked...with cars set on fire...and shops and banks looted.
A state of emergency was declared....banning strikes and protests...imposing a night-time curfew and 20 days of restricted movement.
All regional mobile phone coverage and internet access were reportedly disconnected.
