For the first time since the early 1960's, President Raul Castro is allowing Cubans to work for themselves in 178 approved jobs, hire employees and rent out cars.
But the new small businessmen suddenly face many competitors...customers with little money...without credit or startup capital...and burdened by a new tax code.
New cafeterias are having an especially hard time.
"People think it will be easy, so you see them everywhere you go, but the market has a limit," said an official.
