URUGUAY: Active General Jailed For 1974 Human Rights Violations.

   Gen. Miguel Dalmao has been jailed, the first active military  imprisoned for human rights violations committed during the country's 1973-85 dictatorship.
   Dalmao will be held pending appeal of his conviction in the 1974 death of a communist in military custody, a process that could take months. His final sentence could be up to 30 years.
   Dalmao commanded the Army's 4th Division. He has declared his innocence.
