In an unexpected turn, Economy minister Amado Boudou announced that the government is requesting help from the IMF to devise a NEW consumer price index to monitor the domestic cost of living at a national level.
Businessmen, political opponents and foreign investors with bonds tied to consumer prices have long complained about manipulation of price indices.
The official government Indec says recent inflation is about 11% but most analysts estimate the figure at 25% and increasing.
