The government has completely canceled the Tia Maria copper mine project after two more people were reported killed in the area around the proposed mine.
The mining ministry called the environmental impact assessment for the $1bn project "inadmissible".
Farmers in Islay had threatened to boycott tomorrows presidential election unless the mining company abandons its $1 billion Tia Maria copper mine project there...and police stop attacking protesters.
The threat followed an earlier clash that left one dead and 50 injured.

PERU: Copper Mine Protestors Try To Block Pan Am Highway, Set Fires Near Islay.
Hundreds of protesters opposed to a Southern Copper mine near Islay smashed windows and set a bus on fire as at least a thousand police officers tried to stop a blockade of the Pan-American highway.
The Front for the Defense of the Tambo Valley says the mine would cause pollution and accused the government of President Alan Garcia of being on the side of big mining companies.
