Last night...news broadcasts from Mexico...were consumed with many breathless speculative reports about the possible death of the USA/Mexico's 'most wanted' billionaire...Sinaloa's narco jefe...Joaquin El Chapo/Shorty Guzman...in Guatemala's Peten region.
But...today...there's nothing about it on the BBC, AFP and CNN websites.
Finally...AP issued an update.
Officials there today are now declaring Chapo's rumored death...false...and reports of it... 'a misunderstanding.'
What happened?
In San Valentin, Guatemala...locals reportedly found a body in a car in the dense jungles of Peten...and described a fierce gun battle between gangs...with 2 dead.
The corpse was said 'to resemble' Guzman.
El Chapo has been on the run since 2001...after escaping from prison.
Troops combed the dense jungle on foot...and by helicopter...searching for suspects.
But they have not found any bodies....or even evidence of a gun battle.
