Former President Fernando de la Rua's trial has begun for bribing senators in 2000 to get their votes.
Prosecutors claim he paid $5 million to win votes ending some workers' rights.
He claims the trial is a political vendetta.
De la Rua, 74...resigned in disgrace in 2001 during austerity riots from the nation's economic crisis...fleeing by helicopter from the palace residence.
The trial may take 6-8 months...with some 400 witnesses...including current President Cristina Kirchner.
