When giant Google dallied...and neglected to improve its leading social medium ORKUT...FACEBOOK moved in...and is now conquering Brasil.
ORKUT today has 36 million users...to FACEBOOK's 34 million.
But observers say ORKUT's days may be numbered.
"Until Orkut came along in 2004, Internet use in Brasil was stagnant," said a S. Paulo analyst. "When people here started buying computers and going to Internet cafes, it was specifically to access Orkut. Now many of those people are moving to Facebook."
