Beijing is copying a page from S.Korea's auto playbook...and successfully going after Brasil's cost conscious new car buyers...as it trolls for growing markets to exploit.
"There’s been a quicker uptake than I think any of us expected for Chinese brands here in Brazil,” said a J.D. Power exec. “Right now, there certainly seems to be consumer interest in the new brand and a product that costs less.”
President Dilma Rousseff worries about damage to native manufacturers from imports...and recently raised by 30%...a tax on cars with a high proportion of foreign-made parts.
