Miguel Angel Yunes accuses long-time teachers union chief Elba Esther Gordillo (above) of demanding 20 million pesos/$1.6 mn monthly to form a new union-linked political party.
Gordillo, 66, has been called “Mexico’s Jimmy Hoffa...in a dress”.
She responded that Yunes' claims were “rash, frivolous and slanderous.”
Yunes was the director of the ISSSTE, an agency that administers health and pension benefits for public employees in 2007 when the demands were allegedly made.
Gordillo, aka “La maestra,” is the most powerful woman in Mexican politics as president-for-life of the 1.5 million member teachers union.
