An armed clash between gangs in a Cuidad Juarez prison left at least 17 dead, 2 with gunshot wounds and 72 with minor injuries.
It took several hours for police to secure order in the 2,500 pop. prison.
There are also claims that some 16 federal police fired on Juarez's police chief armored SUV as he arrived at the prison to help restore order.
