An epidemic that may be malaria has killed dozens of people, decimating three villages of Yanomami indigena in Venezuela's Amazon region.
The number of deaths reported was just an estimate. "The number could be lower, but in any case it's an important, alarming number," said researcher Dr.Carlos Botto.
The Yanomami are one of the Amazon's largest isolated indigena groups, with a population of roughly 30,000 on both sides of the Venezuela-Brasil border.
