COLOMBIA REPORTS/ Police are investigating an anonymous tip on April 26 that "a group of unknown people" plan to assassinate Green Party presidential candidate Antanas Mockus. The caller blamed Mockus' "the surge in popularity that the candidate has achieved recently that could lead him to be the president of Colombians without moving to a second round [of voting]," as a motive for the assassination plot. Mockus' surging popularity has surprised analysts despite opponents' recent attacks on his proposed security policies.
Meanwhile Mockus has moved into 9th place worldwide in Facebook followers with 513,413 fans...just behind former U.S. Republican presidential candidate John McCain.
