Four reporters, including two from the powerhouse Televisa network were kidnapped by a narco gang. Reportedly, the drug thugs didn't like coverage of last week's arrest of a Gomez Palacio prison director, who was accused of arming prisoners, providing them with cars and allowing them to leave the prison to murder for hire. They allegedly massacred 17 in Torreon.
"The kidnapping of the four journalists is the latest in a string of violent incidents aimed at silencing the press along Mexico's northern border, where drug cartels battle over routes and lucrative local markets. Cities such as Reynosa and Nuevo Laredo live in a virtual news blackout as reporters, threatened with kidnapping and death, don't cover the stories."
The gang demanded that three videos be aired. They ran a total of 15 minutes. The videos show a policeman and others linking the Zetas gang with police officials in the cities of Torreón, Gómez Palacio and Lerdo.
