CHILE: Navy's Touring Tall Ship...Has Sordid Past.

   The Chilean navy's sloop...the Esmeralda...is the world's second-longest and second-tallest ship.
  It is currently touring the USA...promoting Chile.
  But not mentioned...is the ship's role in the 1970's...the nation's darkest period...when the military dictatorship imprisoned, tortured and killed an estimated 30,000 opponents...at least 100 of them on the Esmeralda.
