Unless online petitions...and growing user outrage change their minds...the honchos at Google will kill-off the Reader web feed...on 01 July.
In Mt. View...executives are defending it as part of the company's annual 'spring housecleaning'.
So far...over 142,000 have signed the biggest of 10 petitions protesting the feature's demise.
It's too bad that Google didn't wait a day to announce the user backstabbing.
It would have been more appropriate...and ironic...on 15 March...The Ides of March.
This newsblog daily relies on the Reader...to skim for news stories that Google New...and its algorithm neglects...especially blogs...like the Global Voices Online for Latin America and Eastern Europe...plus many others.
It is also probable that one day soon...Google will kill-off Blogger/Blogspot...and this newsblog will disappear...especially because this editor refuses to allow crappy advertising for herbal viagra and cheap Canadian drugs made in India to pollute its pages...and slow its loading.
Blogger already suffers from severe neglect...plus the recent invasion by many spambots...that distort page and visitor numbers for the USA.
Who can really trust Google Analytics stats now? They seem BOGUS!
Many pleas to Blogger have gone unanswered...and the spambot problem has only gotten worse.
Also...what happened to Google's fabled mantra of...Don't Be Evil?
It seemingly has been tossed aside...as the stock soared from the original $85 per share...to over $800...with a target of $1,000.
Perhaps...it is time for this newsblog to explore moving to...Tumblr...or somewhere else?
After all...in line with Google's current thinking...it makes no sense to spend 4 hours daily crafting this newsblog...only to give it away!
Of course, the Google bigwigs can't purchase a Hawaiian island like Oracle's Ellison...or even a former NASA hangar to house their 8 private jetliners for $33 million...when you give away services.
It seems the arrogance of Microsoft has now shifted...to Google.
Dominance will do that.
Thanks, Android!
The Reader's death, Google's indifference and the spambot stats problems also have me rethinking the purchase of its Chrome notebook.
This blog has been created on a Chrome only prototype since December 2010...with varying difficulties and frustrations.
Most problematic has been its terribly weak WiFi...which, of course, kills ALL use.
So...Microsoft's system is back in the running.
As for this newsblog's current problems...maybe the simple solution...is to quit blogging...and let Google Search/News...winnow out obscure content.
Yeah, right! Good luck with that!
