A voting turnout technicality...championed by the EU...saved President Traian Basecsu...from impeachment...and for awhile from his political enemies...including PM Victor Ponta.
More than 50% turnout was required to approve a national referendum...but it only garnered 45.92%...with the 3% error margin...according to the election bureau.
8 million/88% of those who voted...wanted Basescu impeached.
But Ponta is still demanding that Basescu resign.
Basecu has refused...meaning the blood feud will simmer until the November elections.
The nation's currency...the leu...rose...after weeks of decline.
