Increasing violence on Colombia’s southern border has forced many to seek refuge across the porous 640 km jungle border with Ecuador.
“In the last 10 years, the numbers of Colombians seeking asylum in Ecuador has increased. While there is stability in some parts of Colombia, in the south it is the opposite,” said a spokesperson in Quito.
The two governments have recently re-established diplomatic relations and are working to mitigate the refugee problem.
