POLAND: New Questions About Economic Policy After Chief Banker's Sudden Death.
CNBC/ The death of central bank chief Slawomir Skrzypek, 46, is sure to raise doubts about the country's monetary policy and recent moves to weaken the zloty. Skrzypek was midway in his 6-year term when he died with 95 others inthe plane crash in Smolensk, Russia. Poland was the lone EU member to escape recession last year, and saw its zloty rise to 16-month highs this week due to foreign interest in its bonds and steady privatization inflows. "It was one of the truly brilliant careers recently in Poland," said political analyst Rafal Chwedoruk. "He took his positions among heated disputes and he came out victorious. Even his critics were saying under his leadership the bank was playing its role well."
