When Is A Coup...Not A Coup?

A Honduran Supreme Court Justice says that the military was acting under judicial orders when it deposed former president Manuel Zelaya...and she denies it was a coup.

Meanwhile, Zelaya says he is not afraid of standing trial and is willing to negotiate.

Nothing like a good old Latin American coup to get my blood stirring.

It's been a while, too.

Some sources report the last LatAm coup in 1992. Others say it was 2002...when Hugo "the Ego" Chavez got bounced around.

Coups aplenty. That's why I think that I got hooked on Latin America in the first place.

The politics were always so interesting...and ever-changing.

I even quietly feared the coup drought...might go on.

Then along came...good old dependable...Honduras.

Honduran Prez Zelaya Flees Coup...For Costa Rica

As some predicted...Honduran president Manuel Zelaya was deposed by a military coup...the first in Central America... since 1983.

Zelaya was relieved of duties as he continued on with an unofficial referendum that would permit his re-election.

He fled to Costa Rica after telling a reporter that..."They( the army) are creating a monster they will not be able to contain."
