USATODAY / J. SWARTZ
Two weeks of insanity here officially begins today...with the 17th annual SxSW Interactive Festival.
The invasion of techies, nerds and important Internet companies from around the world will soon be followed...by nearly 2,000 bands and fans along with odd color-streaked hair, tattoos and nose rings.
Then comes the March of the cinephiles and movie stars.
I can at least identify with them. Okay, maybe NOT Mel Gibson.
That will be followed by a flood of basketball freaks and the state high school tournaments.
Oh, I almost forgot. This is Texas. There's a RODEO, too!
Plus since January, this capitol city has been plagued by the return of the state's politicos.
The roads and restaurants are crowded and Whole Foods' 2 stores are overrun.
Yes, every March, I long to be back in Cuba...where everyone is paranoid but hustling...which in Castrolandia...is the norm.
Of course, there are positives living here...besides the $250 million cash infusion the invasions will bring to this area.
Traffic may go nuts...but trees are in full bloom, cardinals are singing for mates and the weather is predicted to be in the high 70's (26c) and sunny.
Ah, Austin !
