A serious crisis is developing after President Cristina Fernández fired central bank governor Martín Redrado over her plans to use $6.6b in central bank funds to pay off debt. Redrado has refused to quit, saying that only Congress can fire him. Fernández’s control over Congress has weakened since mid-term elections.
