VENEZUELA : Caracas Takes Universe Pageant Loss Hard; Net Mocks Caracas Contestant.

      Miss USA...Rhode Island beauty Olivia Culpo...won the Miss Universe contest...but all the internet chatter centered around...Miss Venezuela...Sofia Esser Quintero's...brave attempt to answer a question in English.
      What came out of her mouth...frankly...was nonsense.
      She came in 3rd.
      The internet generally mocked her for trying to answer a weird question about laws...in a second language.

      The pageant has no language requirement.
      Like Chavismo...most Venezuelans believe in beauty contests...and even encourage plastic surgery for pageant wannabes. 
      The nation is also used to winning beauty titles...with more Universe crowns than any other nation except the USA.
      With Hugo Chavez still in a La Habana hospital...reportedly suffering from bleeding and breathing complications...and the possible postponement of his 10 January inaugural... coupled with Esser Quintero's loss and mocking...it has been a hard week for Caracas.

      As a native English speaker...with at best...the Spanish fluency of a 7 year-old...and perhaps only a 5-year-old's in Portuguese, French and German...this newsblog's editor sympathizes with Miss Venezuela's desire...and attempt...to be understood in another language.
